What do you do when you're invited to perform a specially written dance at a truly unique venue, the Fondazione Giorgio Cini in Venice, but you want to bring your UK audience along for the ride? The simplest solution is to broadcast a live stream from a smartphone to provide a 'fly on the wall' perspective, but when Shobana Jeyasingh and her team approached us with this problem we decided to go one better.
Working together to build up attention in this one-off event we did indeed use smartphone technology to bring the audience into the rehearsal space, but the show itself demanded a set up more fitting to a large stage and such a spectacular setting. Working with dance director Terry Braun, we took a light-weight broadcasting set up (just two pieces of standard luggage) to Venice and broadcast a full HD, 4 camera show straight to Facebook.
As well as providing a huge uplift in social activity for the client, the show was in itself a step up in quality from the majority of Facebook live videos being produced today - something which is not always necessary but was essential for a work of this nature. As a company we work with brands to leverage live streaming for a whole multitude of purposes, from a well constructed smart phone stream to a TV quality live broadcast, and this project allowed us to utilise both ends of the spectrum to great effect.
