Bring art to a younger audience
Can taste, touch, smell and sound change the way we see art? Tate Sensorium, our exploration into how the senses can be stimulated in a gallery space, set out to answer that question.
The result was an innovative multi-sensory exhibition that allowed visitors to hear, smell, taste and touch sensory stimuli that responded to four paintings from the Tate collection. It was developed with a unique collection of talented sensory specialists.
The Sensorium was developed after winning Tate’s IK Prize 2015, and attracted a full capacity of 4,000 visitors, as well as attracting global press and social media attention. The Sensorium won the Design Week Award for Exhibition Design.
